nj - can i bring my soon to be x to small claims for possessions i owned prior to brief (6mo) marriage. we're still married but have been apart since july. i don't have receipts, one item is of sentimental value (dead mom's doll) another antique, that he refuses to give back..wants to hold as blackmail until divorce is over. any suggestions? thanks

Most small claim courts only allow you to sue for money damages, not for the specific return of items.

And since you didn't read the BIG RED TEXT at the top of the screen, we can't tell you if it applies to whatever state you are in.
