What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia
Hi I live in Georgia and recently had to go to court for a misdemeanor. I contacted a lawyer and he agreed to meet me in court. I arrived when we agreed to meet...and waited. And waited. And waited for 3 hours, calling him and calling the office. I got no response. Finally I had to go in because my name was about to be called. Finally he comes running in with the paperwork, grabs another persons lawyer and talks to him for 2 seconds and tells me that he has a bigger more important case to be at right now and this man will handle my case. Then he leaves. I have never met this new lawyer before in my life and he was not part of my lawyers firm. He wasn't even briefed on my case so when my name was called immediately after, he put me in front of the judge and read everything off a piece of paper. And that was it, the judge let me into a program and I never heard from my lawyer again. Until this month, when he wrote me a letter asking for the rest of his legal fee. Do I have any rights and if so, what are they?
