After working for 5 years for my current employer I was told to sign a 2 year non compete agreement. This came about because another employee left the company to go to our competitor.

Can I be made to sign or be terminated?
Can I ask to be compensated financially before I sign?

Yes the employer can require employees to sign non-compete agreements. Plus, if the employee refuses to sign, the employer can lawfully terminate said employee.

Can you ask for financial compensation in exchange for signing it? Sure? Are you likely to get any money? No.

OK?
