I was involved in an accident where I unintentionally ran a stop sign in an unfamiliar part of town. Completely after the police / ambulence / other driver left I found out that the stop sign I ran had a line of black spray-paint across the face of it, through the word "STOP" twice in fact. I had already admitted fault since I never say the stop sign the first time. I was issued a ticket "failure to stop at a stop sign" and have a required court date. The police never acknoledged the state of the stop sign, in fact I think I am the only one who noticed out of all the witnesses or police.

I was just curious if I should just walk in and plead guilty, pay the fine and call it a bad year. Even if I could waive the ticket, would it be worth the lawyer costs?

Suggestions greatly appreciated!! :)

Thanks,
Brian

Actually I do have pictures of it. Taken very next day ASAP, and pictures of the intersection. As for admission, there WAS a stop-sign. What am I gonna do?
Me: "There was no stop sign officer."
Officer: "What's that right there?"
Me: "Your imagination obviously."

Now how about answering my original question...BOY!
What is this, a twelve year old giving legal advice? Anyone ELSE have suggestions?

Thanks greatly,

Brian

Maybe considering going yourself and simply explain the facts and show the photo of the sign and tell the truth-if you believe that why you not see the sign. It depend on the judge, but some may be sympathetic to such a position. Good luck!
