What is the name of your state? Florida

My daughter was employed in a secretarial position for several months in Miami. She received pay without any witholding, SS, or w/c deductions. She left the firm a month ago,but they have not paid her for the last two weeks. They are not returning calls from her. I am in PA and would just like her to be paid and am not looking for a fight. I need suggestions to bring pressure on them. I believe it is illegal to not pay social security and workman's comp for a 9-5 type job.
If this cannot be settled promptly, I will hire a lawyer even if it costs me more than the amount due her.
Suggestions and help appreciated.

First of all, the employer was in violation of the law by paying your daughter "under the table". Secondly, she may also be culpable by accepting this arrangement, in that she made it possible for the employer to violate the law. A secretary is not an independent contractor.

She can try contacting the Florida Dept. of Workforce Innovation (I think that's what it is called) to see if they can assist. However, it is unlikely, since she was not an employee (although she should have been) and Florida has no regulations mandating the time frame by which employees must be paid. She may have to contact the federal Dept. of Labor.

As you can see, getting paid 'under the table" is not to the advantage of the worker in the long run, besides being against the law for the employer.
