I live in the state of Ky. A few months ago I hired a private investigator to do a job for me, the morning of our appt. I discovered a phone message that said my husband was wanting to divorce me. I was upset, during the course of our discussion the investigator told me his wife was an atty. He had me make out a check to her for 3,500 for legal fees and put non-refundable as a note on the bottom. I saw her the next day, we discussed my problem, I taked with her again the following week. No papers were filed, I spent less than an hour total with her. Is this a legal and binding contract? Can she keep the money even though nothing was done..and her husband, not an atty himself...entered the contract not her?
