What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I have a membership at a local gym and I just signed contract for a personal trainer. I just revieved notice that my total amount was sent to and out of state collections agency. I'm trying to cancel because I had to moved away unexpectedly but now I'm concerned. Can the gym send and up to date account to collections?

Well, if you have moved and are trying to cancel a contract that cannot be cancelled at the moment sure, they can. What does your contract say about cancellations?

actually, they can send it to collections anytime they want to. They could have sent it to collections the instant your signed the contract. What matters is how it is reported on your credit report. If it is not listed as delinquent, it matters not who is collecting on the account.
