I am in West Virginia. I received a disturbing message on my cellphone today. It came from an unknown number. The man claimed to be part of a legal group that had a case file on with multiple complaints from a third party. He wanted me to call him to give statement so he could send it on to the court system. He also claimed to have sent me multiple letters explaining the complaints but he was giving me one more chance to call him. I never received anything in the mail and we have four other adults in this house that would know to give me anything that arrived that looked important.
Now I know my credit was trashed back in 2008 shortly after the recession started bit I always made sure the secured credit stuff was paid. The credit cards have been dropping off my credit report. My question is what should I do?

Sounds like a scam to me, too. Whatever you do, don't give them bank/credit card information.

It's either a scam or some scumbucket debt collector (I've seen many of these pretend to be law firms). Either way, I'd ignore it. The legitimate police and lawyers won't resort to vague text messages. I'd ignore this (block it if you can).

I had some deadbeat list my cell number as his work number years back. It didn't take long to recognize the collection calls. Even after I figured out what the agency was and called their "president" and reported them to the local police, I still would get calls. The law protects the deadbeat, not the innocent bystander. The tactics used made me realize just what slimeballs the third party collection agencies are.
