What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

Wife and I are having issues. Both seem to be angry with each other most of the time. Divorce has been mentioned. Couple counseling has been suggested, but wife isn't interested. If we don't go to counseling, then I get the sense we are either headed for divorce or headed for living together miserably. Assuming divorce is in my future what do I need to do? I've never thought about it or planned for it. We've been married nearly 20 years. If a divorce happens, I don't think it will be ugly. Anyone have some advice on what I need to do to prepare?

Thanks!

Try to negotiate the dissolving of the marriage in advance. A planned divorce, where both people cooperate, is cheapest and best.

The only real preparation that you can do is to put together a solid list of your marital assets and debts.

And both of you should start cutting back on unnecessary expenses. Even if you manage to do the divorce inexpensively, two households will be more expensive than one - so money will probably be tight.
