Hello.

I recently received a notice in the mail about an abandoned Travel Trailer. I sold the trailer over a year and a half ago but I forgot to remove the plates. I asked the buyers if they could turn them in for me when they got the trailer home and they said yes. I'm guessing they never did and they didn't register it either because the DMV has me listed as the last registered owner. I had let the tags expire before I sold it because it wasen't being moved. I have no bill of sale. I live in Carson City NV but the trailer was abandoned in Olivehurst, CA. I have never been to Olivehurst or anywhere in Yuba County. The notice states that I can request a hearing for $1,470 and that I am responsible for the tow bill.

Am I stuck with the bill? Are there any other legal repercussions I may face?

Thank you for any information and your time.

Wes.

Made me laugh right there.

Bet you didn't file the sold notice with the DMV either.

Any proof of sale other than your sayso?

Yeah, you can be stuck for the bill. It could go to collections and trash your credit. You could get sued for it and have your pay garnished.

All I can suggest is that you request the hearing and do the best you can to convince somebody that you sold it.
