I live in Elizabeth, NJ - Union County. I do not have a lease with my landlord. I told the landlord I was vacating the premises on April 15. The landlord is telling me I need to pay for the month of April and May since I did not give a full calendar months notice.

How am I supposed to know the law if I do not have a lease?
Does the land lord have the right to get the money?

Any help will be apreciated.

"How am I supposed to know the law if I do not have a lease?"

Maybe you could have asked.

"Does the land lord have the right to get the money?"

Maybe, you have to check NJ law. Some states, particularly those with older laws, require a full calendar month notice.
