Recently I was found sitting without wearing shorts on a beach. I had believed this to be a naturist or nudist section of the beach as I has spotted up to ten people naked in this stretch. A woman had earlier informed me that there was a nudist section on the beach.

I was in view of nobody and as I was reading a book my private parts were at that time concealed.

Also as I am Irish and have only been in the US for a short while, I was not aware of the rules relating to this behavior. There were no signs in the beach clarifying what was and was not allowed.

I explained this to the officer but he still gave me a ticket. Apparently this ticket must be paid and it is up to $100. Surely, given the circumstances outlined above and the fact that it is a first offence, a warning or at least a reduction in the fine is in order.

What do you advise me to do? Should I just ignore it as one gentleman advised me? I have been told that if I ever wish to come back to the US a warrant will be put out for me if I do not pay the fine.

Should I appear at the court and plead n0t guilty (which is technically untrue and if the officer testifies will be shown to be untrue)? Should I claim I was drying myself before putting my shorts back on? Should I plead guilty and plead the mitigating circumstances above?

I would appreciate any advice and can be reached at [email protected].

Well Smiley,

Your commnets were so useful and proved instrumental in my getting off. I told this to the female judge and she laughed so much she let me off with a warning!

No this is not true but I did get off. The state lawyer recommended a $100 fine, perfectly scandalous in my view, so I asked to address the court and through the power of my eloquent oratory received a "conditional discharge" (I think that is what she called it).

Anyway just thought some of you folks would like to know.
