i was the power of attorney for my mother. she spent 3 years in a nursing home and they are sueing me for the last 3 months of charges. i signed as "responsible party" for my mother when she was admitted. this nursing home accepts medicaid and medicare. i would not have signed on the responsible party line if i knew i would have been personally held for my mothers bill. my lawyer says we have a 50/50 chance and i have been told many times that a nursing home cannot hold me responsible. my lawyer says that we should settle 1/3, the nursing home feels strongly that it can win. anyone with a similar case or experience can surely help me. medicare and medicaid law clearly states that a 3rd party cant be held liable but the nursing home is saying that i signed this voluntarily
