What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA.
I'm in the third semester of a ADN nursing program at a local community college. I have a unethical clinical instructor who uses foul language at us, tells us to steal supplies from the hospital,(but if we get caught she said she would deny she ever told us to do it), and is generally unprofessional, talking to us about other instuctors in the program behind their back and tells us to not say anything.
Her evaluation period came last week. I gave a very specific negative eval. of this instuctor detailing these events. these evals were supposed to be anonomys, we were supposed to be honest. The director of the program was standing less than two feet from me as I was filling out the eval. As instructed when it was completed, I handed the eval. to the Director of the Nursing program.
A few days later in the clinical environment My clinical instuctor was all over my performance. Then, later that day the Teachers Aide approched me and she told me that I was being targeted because my instuctor found out what I wrote on the eval. she said I should've NEVER been honest.
So, now I'm being targeted. Iam fearful because the clinical instrutor has the power to drop me from the program. I have put five years of my life towards this and thousands of dollars.so i had to do something about it.
Since the last person I handed the Eval to was the Director of the Nursing program, I did not feel comfortable discussing this matter with her, I felt she was involved in telling my clinical instuctor about the information I wrote.
I went above her by contacting the Dean of the program.
Together the Dean of the program and I discovered that the very specific negative eval I wrote was not in the envelope that contained all of the evals. but, the right number of evals was in the envelope.Hence, mine had been taken out of the group and replaced with a fake, fraudulant positvely filled out evaluation.
so where is my eval? is it in the hands of my clinical instructor? what did the Director of the Nursing program do with it?
The answer to that I do not know. but, the Dean asked me to keep this quite while she sorts it out.
meanwhile, I am being targeted and the Dean basically told me there isn't much she can do for me.
I feel that the Dean is going to try to cover up this scandal, and not looking out for my best interests as a student. she already asked me to keep quiet as this is a major problem.
I feel I'm in a hostile learning environment (bieng unfairly discriminated against by my clinical instuctor because of knowlegde of what I wrote on the evaluation), and I'm not feeling safe at school. This is my second atttempt at this program. If I drop or get failed it will make the last five years of my life futile, as I would not be allowed back into this program or accepted into another without repeating the entire program. and then I also have the debt of my Loans ($20,000) to pay back with no job to do so.
Do I have a case?
Why should I keep this quiet as the Dean has asked of me?
