hi , im a 16 year old female who wants 2 leave home in 4 months when my 17 birthday hits...is there any way if i leave i can get in trouble. or am i allowed 2 leave without being put as a runaway ?

under ny law, your parents are repsonsible for you untill youre 21, you can only leave with their permission, if they say no, and you run away, you can be placed in juvenile detention, and its no picnic. my advice-stay home and finish school first.

The first poster was correct, your parents are responsible for you until age 21 and you need their permission to leave sooner, nor does NY have emancipation laws per se, so you will have to stay at hom, go to school etc. Age 18 is only used for some purposes such as charging an adult crime etc.

you are the one giving incorect info. the age of majority in ny is 21, which means her parents ARE respsonsible for her untill shes 21 in all ways including financial

Don't alienate your parents. I can guarantee that you will need them down the line.
