My wife and I are going through a lease reassignment with our building's management company as we broke our lease 4 months early. We need some advice on how to proceed as we have been having some issues with the management company.

We had found a couple who wanted to apply for our apartment. But the husband had previously lived in the building a couple of months earlier with his friends. During the time the husband wasn't living there his friends renewed the lease with his name on it. The management company wouldn't allow him to apply or remove his name from the previous lease.

And just last week we found a woman who loved the apartment and applied right away and got approved. She was supposed to move in on November 16th this Saturday and yesterday we got an email from the building management that she backed out of the lease. The issue is that we signed the surrender document on Saturday the 9th and sent the fee for the lease break too. The thing is that they didn't countersign but they did accept the money. This morning we re-read the surrender documents we signed and it says that the agreement can be canceled by the owner when the new tenant does not deliver the lease if the vacate date is at least 7 days out. As of yesterday, when we received this information, the vacate date was only 3 days away. Would we still be responsible for finding a new tenant?
