New York City.
First of all, I would like to thank freeadvice and everyone for helping in advance.
last week, we contacted a real estate agent to show us apartments for rent in new York city. He made us sign a document and me being naïve, signed it. ( I know I shouldn't have, sorry). He showed us apartments in 2 buildings in a neighborhood that we like.

today, he sent us a list of apartments he showed us and he added 2 other buildings to the list. He did not actually show us those two apartments. He only showed us two out of those four buildings. When I questioned him back asking how he could do that, he said that the other two buildings are owned by the same leasing company in the first two buildings. But, he never actually showed us those buildings. now, he has stopped responding to me and he says that we owe him 15% of the annual rent if we take an apartment in any of the four buildings (of which he showed us only two building).

My question is, how can he do that. is there anyways to fight against him and get those two entries removed ? by adding those two buildings in the list, he leaves us no options to rent. there are only four buildings in that neighborhood and he showed us two of them, now he doesn't let us rent from the other two by adding them to the list and saying that they are leased by same company.
any help is appreciated.

You signed a contract. He doesn't need to actually show you each building. If he finds you an apartment you end up renting he more than likely qualifies for his commission.

I can't see anything wrong or unusual on what the RE agent did.

You hired him to find a property and he helped you. If you decide to take him, he gets a commission. Sounds fair (oh there is this word again) - legal is it anyway.

I Understand

Thank you folks. I understand what you mean. But he hasn't shown me those two buildings. Now if choose to rent from the buildings he hasn't shown us, why should we pay him. He did not show any apartments in that building and moreover he entered then on the sheet without telling me. Is that legal too ?

His job is not to show you property.

His job is to find some and let you know that might be available.

If you rent it, he did his job.

You know about these, as he put them on the list.
