What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MN

I sold a DVD a few months ago through Amazon and the buyer wrote me a week or so after he got it and said it was scratched and wouldn't play. I said fine and to return it and I'd refund his money. He replied back to my email, so I know he got my email.

A few weeks later, he opened a case with Amazon saying I never responded to his email. I told Amazon I'd refund his money once he returned the item. He was cc'd with Amazon's interface. Amazon has the ruling that after 30 days, the seller isn't obligated to refund the money.

It's been 60 days and I have yet to receive the disc. After two months I don't feel it's my duty to accommodate him.

He has closed his Amazon claim (citing lack of clarity on their terms) and now aims to take it up with his credit card company. I am not interested in refunding his money after all this time.

Am I obligated to by his credit card company and what legal right do they have over me when it's a transaction I've run through Amazon? Am I obligated to even call them back? If I get the item, I'm inclined just to mail it back to him. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

whoever the merchant of record is is bound by the terms of their agreement with the CC company. If that allows the buyer to do a charge back, then that is what it is. Generally, charge backs are done during an investigation. If the investigation does not uphold the buyers claim, the charge is reinstated.

your agreement with Amazon will control how this affects you if you are not the merchant of record.
