I lived as an occupant on a lease with a friend in the state of Pennsylvania. She and I had a falling out and I vacated the apartment. Several months later she defaulted on the lease and now they are continuing to hassle me for the past due rent even though I never signed the lease and was not considered a tenant. In fact, when I went to get a copy of the lease, I was told that since I was not "on the lease", I could not have one. This is seriously affecting my credit and specifically my ability to rent a new apartment. What recourse do I have?

file disputes with the credit reporting agencies (each of them that is reporting this in error).

You might pay a lawyer a couple bucks to write a cease and desist demand hinting at a suit for libel. Sometimes that is enough to get their attention.
