What is the name of your state? New Jersey

I am a police officer in New Jersey. A resident who gets arrested on a regular basis discovered that my ex-wife of 18yrs is a drug addict/prostitute in a near by city. Everytime he is arrested he tells my fellow officers of this circumstance. He tells them that he has paid her for sex. In a discussion he stated this to me, as well as admitting to heroin use himself.

I feel this is damaging my reputation and hindering me from doing my job. Does this meet the criteria of Slander/Defamation? Is there anything I can do? How can I protect myself from being accused of harassing him due to this situation? I am stressed out over this situation. I am proud of the work I do and want to continue with no worry that this will hinder me.

I need advice! I will continue to check this post for replies.

If a person says something defamatory about Susie, that does not defame John.

I dont see where this is any problem to you. He is talking about his exwife and not you. Just do your job and pay no attention to him and thank you for being out there for all of us
