Inmate identifies as female in male prison with male genital.

Female officer being forced but wants to refuse to strip search inmate for personal reasons.

I found this bill:
https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1243504

How can I find out if there have been any changes to this bill?

Is she legally protected to refuse to perform the search?

Thank you in advance

Officer should sign up and ask their own questions...or ask their Union rep.

I agree but she has her own challenges that make this type of thing difficult. She's a kind woman, I'm just trying to get information.
Union rep hasn't been helpful.
This is a new situation that has the prison a bit nervous.
Recently here in NJ a transgender inmate in the female prison got two other inmates pregnant.
The whole department is scared and if they can sort of bully her into doing what they want it's less for then to worry about

The Bill you are asking about was referred to the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee, where it died.

Here is a text of the Bill (NJ S2962) as introduced on September 24, 2020:

Your friend could contact the sponsor of the Bill, Senator Joseph Cryan, to see if there are plans to revive the Bill in the new session. Here is a link to the Senator’s contact information: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/legislative-roster/406/senator-cryan

I truly do not mean so seem nasty, but if your friend is so challenged that she can not sign up and ask her own questions she really should not be a guard in a prison.

The prison guard could have concerns about her identity being revealed if she posts to the forum - although ChrisCary’s post could be just as problematic in that case.

New Jersey was sued by the ACLU, on behalf of a transgender inmate who was assigned to a male prison based on the sex assigned her at birth. The inmate identifies as female. As a result of the lawsuit, New Jersey now houses transgender inmates by gender identity. This, unfortunately, has not been without problems.

If the female guard feels uncomfortable searching a transgender inmate, the transgender inmate could be equally uncomfortable. There can be special placements for inmates considered vulnerable if housed with the regular prison population.

I don’t know if the female prison guard can refuse to strip search any prisoner, however. That question is best answered by her supervisor.
