Sold a house 5 years (Feb. 96) ago that had an oil tank in the ground. The buyer did not discover the tank in the ground on inspecting the house and I had no idea it was in the ground either. Recently I received a letter from their lawyer stating we were responsible for paying for the decommission and the removal and that the letter should be forwarded to my home owner insurance company at the time I owned the house. I feel I have no responsibility in the matter if it was discovered during closing and inspection. What legal action are they allowed to take if any? The address of the property was in Edison, NJ, Middlesex County. Please respond as soon as possible.
