What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? No idea.

So here's a little background. I used to live overseas as my dad worked for the DoD. Overseas there are very few options for dating as the schools on base are so small. Between the ages of 18-19 I dated a girl who was 15-16. Her parents were aware of it. Now, there was no sex oral or otherwise - but there were a couple of times that we obviously touched each other in a sexual way. Anyone know what rule of law I would be under on a military base overseas as a civilian? Is this a felony?

Additionally when I was 18 I made out with a 14 year old, no sex, no penetration, nothing like that - I didn't know she was 14 at the time. What would this be classified as?

Any thoughts, info, or links would be helpful.

All of this happened a very long time ago.

From what I've read I maybe would be under the MEJA laws? But then I don't think either of these would be classified as felonies or even serious misdemeanors - or even breaking the law. I'm not sure.

In what state are you now?

In what country were you?
It was in Japan. I am currently in Florida.

To be completely honest, as I said, I thought the 14 year old was older - after I discovered her age nothing further happened.

As for my previous girlfriend - you guys have your own opinions and thoughts on the matter. On the base it was pretty common for older guys to date younger girls. Different culture, different mindset. Additionally, I am half European - in many countries in Europe it is not frowned upon for an 18 year old to date a 15 year old as long as it's consensual.

Blah blah blah. Again - why is this long ago situation suddenly an issue?

Thank you for answering my questions.

In the US, DATING someone who is younger is generally not a crime. If you and the younger girls were in a dating relationships with the consent of both sets of parents and nothing that you and the girls did together was nonconsensual - and there are no claims being raised against you now of forced sex - I am not seeing any legal issue for you.

Why are you asking?

I'm curious because I am thinking about applying to a job that requires an extensive security check, and one of the questions pertains to sexual contact when I was 18 and over with anyone under 18.

If you were never arrested and/or charged with "dating" a girl in Japan, there should be no issue with it.

A security check question actually asks about your sexual activity when you were 18? How curious.

That's what I thought. I've had background checks before and it's never come up. However, the reason I'm thinking about it is because it says if they become aware of previous felonies or serious misdemeanors they will let the agency with jurisdiction know. And I'm not sure if I fall in that or anywhere at all.

If you were not arrested and charged or convicted of any serious misdemeanors or felonies, I do not see that you have anything to worry about.

The fact that you dated girls in Japan when you were 18 will not show up on any background check.

Yeah it wouldn't. But, that's the only only reason I hesitate to tell them about it. Obviously I don't want to lie. I also don't want to put something on there that could get me in serious trouble for something I did years ago if someone thinks I should be in trouble for it. Or if legally I could.

There is no reason that I can see for you to tell any employer or prospective employer about the girlfriends you had in your youth - based on what you have said here, at least.
