On Fmla -- But They Used My Vac Days!

I need HELP!
My mother is suffering from an illness and I needed to take an FMLA leave from my job to take her to her daily appointments. I've been out of work for up to a month now. When I discussed this leave with my supervisor, she told me that I would not be paid for my FMLA leave -- and that was understood. Today, I received a paycheck -- however they utilized all of my vacation time during my leave! To my knowledge, I was supposed to be documented as an unpaid leave. My question: does my job reserve a right to utilize my vacation time without my knowledge? I specifically asked them before my leave if my vacation and sick days are protected while I'm on a leave. What in the world should I do???

I'm a Northern Girl
The FMLA statute specifically grants the employer permission to require an employee to use their vacation and or sick time while on FMLA. I am not aware of any law requiring them to notify you in advance of that fact.
