I have a question about whether a company needs to stand by the price that they list on their website. At the beginning of the month, one of the doctors I work for found a scale to buy online for $20.95. Now he realized that the price was incorrect on the listing at that time..the scale goes for $1700. However, he decided what the heck and placed an order. He received a confirmation email including shipping and handling price and that his credit card would be charged. 2 weeks later after receiving a call from the company stating that the scale was on back order to which he said he was willing to wait, he has now received an email from the company cancelling his order since they do not have a time frame when the item would be available. Interestingly enough when he talked to them on the phone, they are willing to take his order for the same scale for the $1700 price...even though they do not know when the manufacturer will get them another scale. This scale can be found on several other web sites and for varying prices. My main question remains....can the web site refuse to sell him the scale for $20.95 when they made the error on the web site?
