R.I. I have 4 online payday loans,I have been paying on 3 of the loans,I have not as of yet began to pay on the 4th loan.I have since closed my checking acct.,I want to know if I have broken the law and if I can be charged with a criminal offence?( the payments have been debited from my checking acct.)

Where is the 4th of the payday lenders located? State wise not website.

Payday Lenders in Rhode Island are subject to the criminal Usury & Small loan laws and would be within their rights to take you to court, seek a judgement and garnish your wages.

But since you did these online and not at a store psychically in Rhode Island, not 100% sure and hoping someone comes by. But this is not something that is going to go away by simply shutting down your checking account.

If it's just the one loan, try contacting them and talking to them.
