I am in the state of CA, but the person I am concerned about it in Michegan.
She was a part of an online formed community of people who interacted within the realm of chat software. She was confronted by those who organized the community in a "counseling" type situation. The organizers were in the software and she chose to participate over another chat. They connected the two.
The organizers recorded the session and did not ask consent but TOLD her that the text and recording will be sent out to all of the community.

So, in fact they did spread the text and the chat recording in a mass community email, posted it on the community forum and it can also be found in a google search. So now everyone can hear, listen and know about this organizations session with her, where they asked that she step down from an administrative position.

What laws can protect her in this case? Copies of personal and private messages were also disclosed openly that had occured within the community and with the software oweners concerning her.

My name was mentioned also in one of those text messages, openly.

Any thing that can be done??

Your message is somewhat garbled, and I am not sure what you are asking about.

It appears that the issue is this: Is there an expectation of privacy in chat rooms? If more than one person is around when something is disussed, one would be hardpressed to expect privacy when there are others listenting (or reading).

The Internet is an amazing tool. If you don't want things to come back to bite you from online, do not say it online. That is the only sure way to be safe. Good luck.
