Hello! I am wondering if there is any action that can be taken against major retailers who allow you to place an order online explicitly stating that the item is available or in-stock. They then send you a confirmation that your order has been submitted with an estimated shipping date. After several days pass they send you a message informing you that your order has been cancelled. I have recently placed orders to Microcenter, Home Shopping Network as well as Target this holiday season. Each of these merchants stated that they had the item in-stock and was available, had sent me a confirmation email and then up to a week later had sent me a message stating that my order was cancelled because the items were not available. In some instances I had actually contacted the merchant and spoke with a representative to confirm the order and they gave me the estimated shipping date prior to receiving notification that the order was cancelled.
This apparently has happened to a number of people across several different retailers. It just doesn't seem right that major vendors can advertise that they have items available, confirm that the item has been purchased; provide an estimated shipping date and then take up to a week to inform you that they did not have the inventory to fulfill the order.
If this had happened once to a few people I wouldn't even be asking about this; however it has now happened three times to me across the merchants I have listed above. I would imagine that if I was selling something that I couldn't actually deliver there would be some sort of consequences. I realize that I wasn't charged for any of these items, as they are not charged until they actually ship, but for me this is really more about the principle (falsifying available inventory/advertisement) than any monetary damages that I incurred.
Any advice you could give with regards to this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
