What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ.

I placed an order for flowers to a friend and on the website they had a section on the website to write something on a card. So I wrote a message, got a confirmation email with the exact message I wanted and all was well.

Then the next day they email me my receipt which has my note included except that it was altered. (I basically said, "If it wasn't for your smile these flowers would be a total rip off", they altered it to say something completely different taking out the rip off part which I specifically wanted there for a good reason).

At any rate, the flowers have already been delivered and I'm wondering if I can legally demand a refund. I know in that this may seem insignificant but those flowers WERE expensive($60 total order) and I wanted the person who got them to know that for a reason. I wasn't doing it to spite the flower shop or whoever. I'm pretty ticked off that they did this without my permission.

Anyways, feelings aside, do I have any realistic grounds to demand a refund or am I pretty much SOL? I still have the confirmation email that has my message written exactly how I wanted it to be along with the receipt email(with the altered version) they sent me when it was already too late for me to make any changes .

Huge thanks in advance to you guys!

Of course you can legally demand a refund. You can legally demand anything you want. The shop owner, however, is not legally required to give you that refund. In the event of his refusal, your next step would be a civil suit. Whether that's worth your time and the expense is up to you.

Since most on-line transactions are conducted via credit card, the next step would be to dispute the transaction with the credit card company, since the buyer did not get what was paid for.

After that comes the civil suit.

Disregard this message if payment was not made with a credit card.

According to you, the flowers were delivered. Had your card been altered so that the person would receive something crude and objectionable, I think you would have been entitled to some sort of refund. You're trying to get free flowers, and it's not going to work.

You have a strange sense of humor.

That's an important clarification--that he gets his money back either by asking the merchant, or by disputing the transaction--but either way it works out to a refund. My point was, yes, he can try to get his money back, but if that doesn't work he has to sue.
