oral lease agreement UPDATE!!!!!

In January we attended an open house hosted by a realtor to view a rental property she was handling for owners. We left name and number to contact us for decision as she had to contact out of state owners. She called January 23 and said we could have property but that the owners couldn't get to house until Feb 9 and that they would need house for two days that weekend. Everyone agreed we could go somewhere for the weekend while they were making repairs or whatever and on January 27th we met with realtor, gave her $500 security deposit and she gave us the keys and said we could move in. We tried to give her the first months rent but she kept saying owners would take care of it and a written lease agreement when they arrived. Fine we moved in the next day. On February 6th the realtor came over at 8pm at night and said the owners now said they need the house for 5 days and that we had to get out the next morning. That was not agreeable so one of us told the realtor to have the owners call us direct. They did and it was left that they would go to a motel and we would leave on the weekend. They came to house Feb 7, removed their remaining belongings which were untouched and verified with real estate agent and said they would be back at 9PM last night with lease agreement. They did not show up so we all went to bed. Around 10 pm someone knocked on door but no one answered it. This morning, 2/8 owner shows up at 6:30 am and one of us answered door. She walks in and goes into bedroom and states you have to get out now. Out today. One of us had no pants on and said just a minute let me put some pants on so you don't see my booty. She said she was offended at that. Anyway, she states her lawyer told her to tell us to get out or go get police. A locksmith showed up a couple hours ago to put deadbolts on door. We called police and they told them they couldn't do that that they had to give us 30 days. Owners husband was with locksmith and police told him. He apologized for his wife. Now, we have a question. Did she violate eviction trying to self-help evict. What are our options. We trusted this licensed bonded real estate broker with a good reputation. PS We have cleaned (had to get latex gloves for bathrooms)and repaired door jams, etc. We have not violated any agreement. What in your opinion are our options. Thanks
OH WOW 5 minutes ago got served with a 10 day notice to vacate due to refusal to pay rent. She is nuts. HELP!

You need to get an attorney, plus to make a formal complaint against the realtor AND HER BROKER in the profession realtor association, plus your state Department of Real Estate.

You have a mess, the realtor is supposed to protect you against such things, and professionally, she made a mess of her responsibility.

Get the attorney who will both help you with the Notice to Vacate, plus show the realtor what happens when she makes a deal like that.

You could be in for some a profit on this deal .....find a landlord tenant lawyer TODAY!

Deposit hotel room moving expenses lawyers fees...the owner and the agent are in BIG trouble.

I would sue them for everything......Remember you did nothing wrong SO why should all of this COST YOU ANY MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET!

oh ps......Go to the local library and get a copy of that open house ad if it was in the newspaper. you will need it to show the lawyer and judge, hopefully it will have the brokers name and/or the comanpany she works for too, they also have to be added to your lawsuit.

Thanks for your responses. We had problems finding attorneys without conflicts of interest in the town where this is happening. They all have ties to the realtor. Had to go to attorney in biggest city in state. Now all we hope for is that the judge isn't ties to them somehow. I'll fill you in as things develop. All I can say for now is that they have told us criminal charges are possible for MS. Owner. Thanks again!
