I was renting a building and using it for my business and the landlord sold the building to someone else. I never even new that the building was for sell. One day the landlord shows up and says he sold the building and the next day the new landlord shows up and says I need to leave. He also told me that I owed him rent for that month and I already paid it to the other landlord. So I found a new place and then three months later I get a letter in the mail the the new landlord is takening me to civil court for 1.5 months rent, 200.00 in clean up fees, & 200.00 in lawyer fees plus expenses. Can this really happen? I never had any agreement with the new landlord and he told me to get out right away.

Your rental agreement, written or implied, went with the building to the new owner.
