When sentenced for multiple crimes to be served consecutively, how is the order in which those sentences are served decided? This can have a big impact on release dates if one of the sentences is a flat mandatory minimum and the other is eligible for early release programs.

Thank you for providing the name of your state.

Arizona has been rethinking mandatory minimum sentences due to overcrowding in the jails/prisons but, to my knowledge, there has not yet been changes to the early releases on mandatory minimum sentences.

Are you currently incarcerated? If so, the effect of a mandatory minimum on an early release should be discussed with your attorney.

Here is a link to the types of releases in Arizona: https://corrections.az.gov/release-types

Mandatory sentences definitely effect early releases. My question was around the order in which the sentences are assigned to be served. If there are two charges, one has to be run consecutive to the other. How is it decided which one is served first?
