after external and internal radition rod placement for a stage 1 CA of lateral tongue, my father endured 8 surgeries to remove his teeth and debride his jaw bone and eventually remove his entire right jaw. This cancer was 1cm.on the lateral oral tongue. "experts" (hired by attorney) have told us that "standard of care was met".if that is the case, then should all patients treated similarily expect to loose their jaw? I understand that according to the American Oral Cancer Clinic(www.tonguecancer.com) radiation treatment is NOT the treatment modality of oral tongue cancers. Now my father has no tongue cancer, but also has no jaw. He now wishes he could have a simple piece of toast. my father has been treated by dozens of Drs who firstly can't believe my father received radiation treatment. secondly why the rod placement was perfored by a radiationoncolgist who had NEVER done this procedure himself.
