2 weeks ago i rented an apartment in brooklyn ny. i went to an agent who charged me 2 months rent, which came to 3 thousand dollars. the apartment is a sublet, and the rent is 1500. i gave the lady who is the original tenant 3 thousand also. 2 days ago, the manager of the building came here and told us we were here illegally, and that we had to get out. he was very nasty to my 17 year old daughter. he said we could do it the easy way and just get out or do it the hard way, whatever that means. i called the lady i rented from and she promised to get back to me, but never calls back. i called the agent and he told me any problem is between me and the lady i rented from, not him. i have receipts from both him and the lady we rented from. i also found out that the lady is paying 832 monthly for the apartment and she is charging us 1500 a month. i need help desperatly, im recently divorced and could not find anything else to rent due to my declaring bankruptcy during the divorce. i just put my kids in school and i am sick over this. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks, donna

With all of that money you gave everyone... NO WONDER why you declared bankruptcy!

It just shows there are people with more money then brains!

Now what do you do? Well nothing yet......

The landlord MUST give the prime lease holder a 10 Day..."Notice to cure" the sublet.

Then he will and can start evcition proceedings in Housing court against all tenants.

You will need to get a copy of the ad you saw that led you to rent the apartment.

You will need to sue the broker in small claims court for your FULL fee back.....$3000 is the max limit in NYCity.

Then you can answer the complaint and possibly get up to 3 times the rent overcharge from the prime tenant.

So NO ONE can lock you out toss your stuff out cut off the utilities NOTHING without you haveing a fair hearing in a court of law...call the police on anyone who tries!

Remember.....This is still AMERICA no matter what the assshole landlord says!
