I purchased a house nearly 3 years ago with my then fiance. Shortly after the purchase, we split up. He has been living in the house and making the mortgage payments (mostly on time!), and at one point we discussed refinancing in his name only, but nothing came of it. The last time we talked, he said he'd rather sell the house and was doing some repairs and would contact the realtor very soon. That was about 4 months ago, and I have heard nothing since. I have driven by the house, and there are no "for sale" signs up, although it looks like he's still living there. I recently tried getting in touch with him because I am really tired of worrying about this financial obligation, but he is not returning my calls. I realize late payments can affect my credit, and I am also concerned that I will not be able to buy a house of my own at some point in the future because of this existing mortgage. I have even considered filing bankruptcy (my credit is not so good) just to get this house off my back, but I'm not sure that would do the trick. I really don't know what to do at this point...especially if he won't communicate with me.
