What is the name of your state?

My state is New York

Hello,

I am out of status but have filed papers, INS current guess is my case will be handled when I am 35. I am 28 now.

In the mean time I'm continuing me studies. I have learned enough to become an internet programmer/web designer which allows me to give small, medium, large companies a 'web presence. I get paid for this via an internet billing company which allows me to survive in the US and pay for high education until me papers are handled.

My question is....I don't have a social security #.
I do have a tax payer ID #
Am I suppose to pay taxes for my yearly profits?

Regards
MF

If you go to the IRS website, you can find out "who must file" taxes. If you fall into the must file category, then you are required to file your taxes. If you do NOT have a social security number, you must file a form W-7 with the IRS. This form will generate an ITIN (individual taxpayer identification number) for you which you can use in lieu of a ss# and is for tax purposes only. Note that the filing of the W-7 form usually takes 4-6 weeks before a ITIN number can be issued. Go to the IRS website and look up the W-7 form for more info. If you plan on filing your taxes for the 2002 year, I think you will have to first file for an extension to file since the deadline is only a few days away. This extension can be done over the phone, online or via mail.
