I live in Washington state. The management of my apartment complex has started some major repair outside my apartment. We were not even informed of it. The outside wall of my living room is being changed. The wall below that is totally changed and the flooring outside my apartment is being changed. The view ouside my apartment is like a construction site. The walls vibrate and things inside fall. They are behaving as though we don't exist. What can I do?

If its an emergency repair not much you can do.

But if it was planned and they didnt give you notice, you could ask for a rent reduction, or to pay for a hotel room,

and anything that is damaged you contact your insurance company and they will pay....what you dont have renters insurance?

Thank You hahaper. Actually after the tenant living below me vacated last month. When the management took up the apartment for cleaning they realised that the walls were all rotten. This was also the management's falt. There was lot of water accumalation outside my apartment about which I had informed them a couple of times. They ignored me and didn't bother to clear the water. This accumalated water has seeped through the wall and got rotten. Now they have removed the full wall of the apartment below me and also repairing my living room wall from outside and also changing the flooring and have added a drainage outside my apartment. Don't you feel this is a construction work? They took one month to start the work because they had to get Insurance to ok. I had seen the insurance people taking pictures of the site. But inspite of this they didn't bother to inform us.

Now the next question: do you have a lease? if not then you just might get a 30 day notice to move.

and did you inform them about the water in writing? if not how would they have any proof of your claims?
