I'm from new york and I was overpaid on a life insurance claim and now the company is saying I have to pay them back. Being that they made the mistake do I have to pay them back? I have never seen a copy of the policy and I had no idea how much money I was entitled to, I left those portions of the claim forme blank. I just assumed that the insurance company would send the right amount. (silly me)
thanks for any help
p.s. we're not talking about a lot of money here, just over a thousand dollars, but it's a thousand dollars that I don't have!

If the money was paid by mistake, you'd owe it back. As a matter of law their mistakes should not make you richer.

They'd have to prove it was a mistake. Ask for complete documentation.
