I have never requested an increase in child support and my son is 14 yrs. old. His father and I were never married and he has No relationship with him at his choice. I have procrastinated much too long and I'm ready to get the modification. I believe though that my son's faher, who has 3 daughters from his marriage is divorcing and I'm scared of this affecting my increase. My son was first on the scene so I believe he is priority as far as child support goes. But what if divorce proceedings are already in the works or my bigger fear, close to completion or (worse) actually completed? I live in Massachusetts.

You can still put in for a support modification and I would do so if you need the increase to help support your son. However, you must realize he will be supporting 4 kids and unless he has a terrific job, he will not have much to live on. If you need the increase, contact a legal help or SRS office and ask them where you start the paperwork.

yes, He is a major builder of huge beautiful homes in the area. I feel that I have been quite lenient after all these yrs.

While you're at it, try to get something that addresses the issue of future college costs for your son.

Be careful if he has three other children besides yours you might be paying for a decrease. Your son is not top priority . he has been paying his current support so if you go for a increase his other children will come into play where they did not before. So yougo ahead but i would be cautious b/c sometimes being greedy gets you into trouble. So you can very well go to court and get your support lowered.............

Maybe not.. if there is no court order for those three children then they may be ignored. This is why now is a good time if there is no order for them, cos there soon will be.

Wow! Now I'm really confused but thanks for all the replies. For yrs. I thought there was no chance of an increase because of the other children. Then I found this site and read so many replies to other people on the exact opposite. Now that I finally have time o pursue this, I'm finding maybe my first inclination was correct all along. I guess it depends on whether there is a divorce and other court order. By the way hound dog, I hope I'm not being greedy. Like I said I've never asked for an increase before and he's only got a few more yrs. to pay. Guess it's time to take this to the Lord in prayer!
