What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?california we moved into our condo 11 years ago. it was built 18 yrs ago. i know the cc&rs call for using the garage to park in. we can't. niether can a substantial # of others here. for 18 years since the place was built, you had parked in any available stall, and on the avg. there would be half a dozen or so cars in the so called fire lane in front of the structures in the oval drive of the4 'postage stamp sized' complex, w/just 42 units. i say so called because i rule out there being a substantive impediment to firefighting in 6 cars here and there around the oval drive. were there cars double parked, closely spaced, that might be a problem. but not 6 or so. theres 2 fire hydrants and the firehouse is about 1/2 a mile away.

as of 2/1/2014 we were told we must begin parking in a given stall they painted numbers on them. there is only 1 stall per unit. if your garage is committed to another use you park off site. my petite gf could get raped if she has to go to her car the neasrest parking can be blocks away. the streets are dark. PLEASE none of this "you are just going to have to go along" myself my gf and quite a few others WANT A RETURN TO 18 YEARS OF TOW FREE PARKING. how can we be liberated from the PARKING NATIONAL SOCIALISTS? surely we can file some sort of grandfather it back in motion? law enforcement has no interest, has said as much, in whether the fire lane is enforced. a thug like tow firm comes through at random, if you are inside unloading groceries and the tow truck hooks you up its 100$. a wonderful place to live is destroyed.

First, I am surprised the fire code was not enforced before this. Limited resources might have been the cause of lack of enforcement but, whatever the reason for it, the code can be enforced at any time, and violating the code and parking in a fire lane can get your car towed. It is a reasonable code and I am sure you would appreciate it more if your unit were ever to start on fire.

You were provided with a parking space for your unit. It is not the code enforcers' fault that you have chosen to use this parking stall for something other than parking and have chosen for years to park in a restricted zone instead. I suggest that you stow somewhere else whatever it is that you now have in your parking space so your girlfriend can park her car there.

Move out. I doubt they'll be sorry to see you go. Your petite gf could carry mace or you could park out on the street and let her have the on-site parking spot for herself since you're so worried she'll be attacked. I guess that option has not occurred to you.
