What is the name of your state? NJ

I have lived in this apt since 1970, The lease was in my mothers name.. She passed away last June- the owner now wants me to sign as a 'new tenant. I think it is a force play in part- to make me get rid of my dog. While the rent would remain the same- he wants security...& I do not want to disclose personal information...

He had NO problem with accepting my rent checks, and me signing for annual rent increases in NJ yearly...I had asked him at least 3 times over the past 5 yrs to add my name to the lease. He said that was not 'so easy'
This is a 63 unit bldg- & last lease was signed in 1987... Its a '60 day' lease

Do I have ANY rights to remain here. I have nowhere to go

Thank you
