What is the name of your state? CT

I received a letter today stating that I failed to pay for a parking voilation in Phili, PA. It states that the violation happenned when i was driving a rental car and the rental company gave them my contact info.

I do realize that i was in PA around that time and was driving a rental car but i never got any ticket nor any letter stating i did any voilation!!

The letter which i received states that i need to pay also a late penalty fee which is more than 100% of the ticket amount.

I dont mind paying for the ticket, but i never knew about the same. Also why should i pay the penalty if i never received any notice?

Please advise what should I do?

If you REALLY didn't know about the ticket, call up the rental car company and ask for proof. They would have gotten the ticket first.

Then call the number on the ticket and explain that you REALLY didn't know about the ticket until now. Lots of people might figure that if it's a rental car, they won't be responsible, so they would just ignore the ticket. But if you really didn't know, and you can convince them of that fact, then they might waive the late fee.

My father once got a ticket for not paying when going through an EasyPass lane at a bridge. The area wasn't marked well and he couldn't get over to the Cash Only lanes. There were no attendants around and after listening to cars honk for a few minutes, he just left. A month or so later a ticket came in the mail for the price of the bridge plus a $50 fine. My mother called up and explained what happened and they waived the fine. (Of course they sent in the $6 or whatever for the bridge.)

If you honestly didn't know you had the ticket, they should be understanding, especially if you're willing to pay the ticket itself. But if you sound like you're trying to get away with something because you've been caught now, you'll be stuck with the late fee too.
