I recently receive a parking ticket in the City of Chicago; about 3 weeks later I received a warning of vehicle seizure for 8 additional parking tickets from 1990, 1991 and 1993. The total due is $610.00. Of the tickets, I am sure that I paid some of them because I went to court and argued and lost. I have not memory of the other tickets and I do not have records from 18, 17 and 15 years ago. The city recently sent me the Vehicle Seizure Notice and they forced me into a payment arrangement - otherwise my car could be booted.

I asked the City why they waited all this time to come after me if I didn't pay the tickets and they said they don't know. Hmmm. I have always owned a car, payed taxes and I've never hidden from anyone. The woman I spoke to told me it's possible I paid the tickets after a late fee had been imposed and what I am being charged for now is the late fees.

Is there a statute on this?
