A friend of mine who has already served a year in prison( total sentence 5 years),at my suggestion he applied to a half-way house & was accepted. He has been doing incredible( just got his GED). Here is my question: Does a person who goes through the halfway house system have a better chance of being paroled than someone who chooses to serve their entire sentence in prison? Halfway houses are more program oriented & more structured than most prisons,so it would make sense that those who go through the halfway system seem to be better prepared once paroled.

It's good he was accepted. It's a much better place to be
doing time than on the inside. As you've noted, these
programs are very structured (they are desiged to
decrease recidivism rates.) I used to work in the prison
system but never became too familiar with halfway houses
(only that they were beginning to emerge).

These URLs might help you some. Just tell him to be on
good behavior the entire time and not dare even think
about walking away.
