What is the name of your state?I am a permanent part-time employee in Pennsylvania. The home state for the company is Tennessee. I have been told by my doctor that I need surgery and will be out of work 8-12 weeks. Since this is a non-work related injury, I am being told that I am ineligible for short term disability benefits by my employer because I am a part time employee, and therefore not covered by STD benefits in Pennaylvania. Can anyone tell me if this is factual? Or point me in the right direction to find out.

The state of PA does not have any state-mandated STD policy. Therefore, whether it is true or not depends entirely on the terms of your employer's policy.

It is not unusual for STD benefits to apply only to full time employees.
