What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IN
I know I'm a third party but I'm looking for information to guide my son and his stbx.
He filed for divorce while still serving in Iraq last August. They spent 5 days together after he returned but she was unfaithful during his deployment. The conception and unfaithfulness are so close that paternity is in question. My son informed his lawyer as soon as he found out about the pregnancy so she could amend the papers and request a paternity test. Baby has been born (6/20/08) and I know legally he is my son's child. My son has 60 days to add the baby to his medical insurance through the Army. My son believes if he does this it will be the same as admitting paternity. Is this the case? If he doesn't add the baby, the medical bills will pile up (baby had to stay in NICU and has follow-up Dr. visits scheduled after the 60 days). I'm afraid if my son is proven to be the father all the Dr. visits will become his responsibility and the insurance will not cover. Is this correct? My son is dragging his feet on this and there isn't much time left.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
