My son and his ex-girlfriend are about to have a baby anyday now. He isn't 100% sure it is his. How much are paternity tests in Texas, is there anywhere he can get one for free?

He better not sign the birth cert. if he is not sure. There should be an agency in your area that will handle paternity if he files and that is the cheapest way to go for cost of testing most of the time. If the mother was on some kind of medical assistance for the birth through the state even better. Tell him not to wait around but do it now.

Well I speak from experience and currently going thru the same thing. I personally would advise against putting his name on the birth cert. (That can always be modified, I have done it. Its harder to get the name off) I was told a name on the birth cert. is not a legal document only a dna test is. But about the dna cost. I just had one done. It is 420.00 the cheapest i have found because they run about 500.00 and i had an umbiblical cord dna test. The results will be back in about 9 business days. (If everyone in volved is willing to give the necessary blood) The phone number is 1-800-DNA-CENTer

The mother can also have the Child Support Enforcement Agency do it for free also/Welfare Office.

Please, by all means and any cost.....have a paternity test done BEFORE signing any documents, and I do mean any!!!! Don't be suckered into something that you may not be able to get out of. Believe me, it far less costly to pay for paternity tests, than it is to pay child support for 18 years for a child who may not be your biological child. DO IT and Do It Soon!!!!
