Can a doctor refuse to release a patient from his care? If so, under what circumstances? Does a patient have the right to change doctors at their discretion if they feel they are not recieve adequate care from their current phsyician? I was told recently by a doctor, that after a surgery the doctor who performs that surgery is "legally" responsible for the patient for up to one year. Is this true? If so can the doctor refuse to give a patient care even on an emergency basis, based on the the above state "law". Looking for answers to these questions for the state of Alabama and Texas
