What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Idaho

Do I have a legal right to request copies of everything that is in my medical file at my doctor's office? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

For the most part, yes, though some doctors misinterpret HIPAA and believe they only need to/are allowed to release the records that originated in that office, not copies of records from other doctors, or test results etc. But that's a misinterpretation. If you request all your records, you should get all your records. Expect to have to pay reasonable copying fees.

In addition to what ecmst stated, a Physician may use his/her discretion in releasing psychiatric notes to a patient. They are permitted withhold psychiatric records if they feel the release of said records would be harmful to the health and well being of the patient.
