What is the name of your state? IL. I took paxil for about a year and a half, I took it unitl i found i was pregnant (three mnths pregnant) When i told my doctor she told me not to worry and i should be able to keep taking it. My daughter was born two months early, hole in her heart, eczema and nevus sebaceus, she was in the hospital for 2 mnts. Do I have a case ? If so what do i have to do or who do i have to call?

Paxil has an increased rate of heart defects when taken during pregnancy, in fact the harm if any, may have been done by the time you asked. When taking any medication, the risk of pregnancy should be discussed with your prescribing provider before you become pregnant, or with your pharmacist at any time and you should make sure you are taking appropriate amounts of vitamins and folic acid.

There are a number of lawfirms who will review your case to determine the nature of your case if any. Just because Paxil may cause birth defects doesn't automatically mean you have a case or that you and your doctor don't bear some responsibility. How is your baby doing now?

paxil response

Il. My daughter's skin is very sensitive due to the eczema, fabrics, food, and mood could triger an outbreak, as far as the nevus sebaceus she needs surgery to remove it from the back of her head.

I think I am confused.

What does Paxil have to do with someone else being in a wheelchair and not being able to get to the ground floor???

Is this supposed to be it's own post, or am I totally missing something here?

Was this your OB/GYN who told you not to worry about taking the Paxil while you were pregnant? If so, shame on her (or him)!!
Always read the package insert that comes with prescription drugs. They are there for a reason.
Also, what about the Doc. who gave you the paxil? Did you see him or her the months you were pregnant, and didn't they say something to you about the medication???

The nevus is not associated with Paxil, there may be a family genetic trait for it or it may be caused by hormonal changes, complete removal is reccommended and monitoring as they may continue to appear with age. Your child was born premature and may have a eczema related to that or genetic predisposition, some children grow out of the infantile form. You might ask to have your child tested for Alpha-1-Antitrypsin deficiency, A phenotype test as opposed to serum test. While this effects the lungs and gi systems (any family history of these conditions) it may also affect the skin. You child may be hypersensitive.

Paxil, when provided through a pharmacy or in sample packs from the doctor, has product information included. A woman taking Paxil should be on birth control; failing to read the product information and use proper birth control does not make the manufacturer liable (they disclosed the potential birth defect problem) and it does not make the physician liable.

If the OB/GYN had told the poster that birth defects were a virtual certainty, would the poster have had an abortion or continued the pregnancy and dealt with whatever birth defect presented?

Taking medication places an enormous responsibility on the person taking the medication to know what the drug is, what it is for, how to take it, and to know the most common side effects and potential dangers such as birth defects.

Anyone competent enough to write the information in the original post of this thread is competent enough to be responsible for properly managing medication regimens.

The child should be fine.

I agree, Just because we are prescribed medications doesn't place the responsibility on others. I hate telling people that birth defects due to medications are their fault but in most cases they are. Women of child bearing ages need to be especially careful for that reson and always consult with their pharmacist if they have any questions about their medications in addition to their prescribing provider as they are redily available. Caution should also be used when taking supplements as well as these are loosly regulated. I asked how baby was doing and aparently the heart defect is healed or repaired and the remaining problems not related.
